One Small Step Towards Financial Freedom in 2024
When I started dating my boyfriend (now husband) in October of 2019, he slowly started introducing me to financial influencers such as Dave Ramsey….I was so intrigued that I started listening to more Dave Ramsey videos and I learned that I was “Broke!”
Before 2019, I never actually thought it would possible for me to be debt free at a young age. It wasn’t for any crazy reason, it was just more of a far off dream than anything.
I never saw or heard anyone around me have the desire to get out of debt. Debt was normalized and I never once though to question it partly because I didn’t feel the ramification of it…yet.
When I started dating my boyfriend (now husband) in October of 2019, he slowly started introducing me to financial influencers such as Dave Ramsey. He was on the path towards completely eradicating debt out of his life.
I was so intrigued that I started listening to more Dave Ramsey videos and I learned that I was “Broke!” even though I had a healthy savings. Ugh, I fought the idea for awhile and realized that he was right. My debt exceeded my savings. I was broke.
The good thing is that I wasn’t discouraged. I actually used the stories I heard of Ramsey’s platform as motivation. I really liked the concept of the debt snowball method where you pay off the lowest debt first and build your way up. After several videos, I took one small step towards financial freedom by taking out $5K out of my savings and paying off my car in 2020.
Oh, it felt wonderful. It was the catalyst of my journey towards being debt free.
On November 06, 2023, I finished paying over $70K in debt. Praise God!!!
Reflecting on my journey, I realized that most people don’t embark on their financial freedom journey because they really don’t know where to start.
It really just begins with one little small step whether it is making a few dollars on your credit card bill or refusing to buy a streaming another streaming service or making a budget and sticking to it.
What small steps can you take towards financial freedom today?
